Carl Orff's Carmina Burana was composed in 1935/36 and is based on a collection of Middle Latin and Middle High German songs and dramas from the 11th and 12th centuries. Orff selected 24 of them and wrote a libretto based on them.
The themes range from transient happiness and prosperity to the dangers of drinking, gluttony and lust, and the awakening of spring. The chorus and orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, conducted by Eugen Jochum, with soprano Gundula
Janowitz, tenor Gerhard Stolze and baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, recorded the work in 1967 in the presence of Carl Orff. One of the best recordings of this choral work.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
