Beethovens' 9th Symphony is a key work of symphonic music and has influenced many composers. For Anton Bruckner, it was the catalyst for his symphonic work, while Gustav Mahler followed the
path opened by Beethoven in incorporating choirs and singers. The 9th Symphony has also had an impact beyond music, on artists from other disciplines, on philosophy, on the discourse of aesthetics.
This recording by Leonard Bernstein with the Vienna Philharmonic dates from 1979 and is part of a series of recordings of all of Beethovens' symphonies. The singers are Gwyneth Jones (soprano),
Hanna Schwarz (alto), René Kollo (tenor) and Kurt Moll (bass), and the recording was made at the Vienna State Opera.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
