Two years without a new Presley release presented fans and radio stations with an enormous test of patience. All the greater were the expectations of the King when he returned from military service in 1960
and went back into the studio. Under the eyes of "Colonel" Tom Parker and representatives of RCA, Elvis Presley recorded twelve new titles with his longtime companions Scotty Moore, Floyd Cramer, D.J.
Fontana and the background singers of The Jordanaires, which were not to disappoint anyone. The content matched the yellow exclamation mark on the cover in every respect: Elvis was back!
The Elvis version of 'Fever' is still happily performed in hi-fi studios today, and the finger snapping and bass are wonderfully present in this version. 'Dirty, Dirty Feeling' and 'It Feels So Right' show his undiminished
talent for challenging authority and propriety. 'Reconsider Baby' and 'Like A Baby' are among his best blues numbers. Audiophile listeners paid horrendous sums on eBay for the DCC Gold Disc until recently.
This remastering by George Mariono now offers an excellent alternative. Especially since the audibility and detail is once again more credible than on previous versions, which were mainly characterized by a very
strong fundamental tone.
