The Italian composer and conductor Enrico Mainardi (1897-1976) is one of the most important cellists of the 20th century. Mainardi was born in Milan and studied at the Verdi Conservatory there. At the age of 13, he made

his first public appearance as a soloist. Three years later, his collaboration with Max Reger led to the premiere of Reger's Cello Sonata, Op. 116. Enrico Mainardi later accepted a professorship at the Accademia Santa Cecilia

in Rome. Together with pianist Edwin Fischer and violin virtuoso Georg Kulenkampff, he formed a trio that was renowned throughout Europe. When Kulenkampff died, Wolfgang Schneiderhan took his place. “Bel canto on the

cello” – that seems to be the most apt comment heard after a concert by Mainardi. The sound of his cello is remarkably flexible and warm, almost like a beautiful voice. Yet every single phrase is perfectly formed. His inspired

performance lends something magical to every interpretation.Analogphonic commissioned Maarten de Boer to remaster the Universal Music master tapes. The audiophile remastering at Emil Berliner Studios does justice to the

outstanding musical quality of the recording in every respect and proves how extraordinarily good stereophonic mono recordings can sound.

The LP reissue of “Enrico Mainardi Plays...” was pressed at Pallas Group GmbH in Germany on high-quality 180-gram vinyl (33 RPM)

We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
