This 1954 recording by Fritz Reiner with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is legendary. His interpretation of the Strauss work was one of the first stereo recordings on RCA, put to tape by Jack Pfeiffer.
Eight years later, the label invited Reiner again to record "Also Sprach Zarathustra" - this time with improved technology. But the musical as well as the recording quality of the 1954 production remains
unsurpassed. And even if the statement that the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Fritz Reiner is the 'best orchestra in the world' is always ultimately problematic, this recording is outstanding.
According to the descriptions, the conductor Reiner was a despot who truly bullied his musicians. He led the Chicago Symphony Orchestra through the score with spare gestures, but he achieves a brilliance and
transparency with him that today's conductors will have to struggle to match. Remastering for Analogue Productions was handled by Ryan Smith.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
