Horace Tapscott – Tapscott + Winds / Nimbus West Records

Previously unreleased, "Tapscott + Winds" shows a new side of US jazz pianist Horace Tapscott. In trio with saxophonist Kafi Roberts and flutist Aubrey Hart, a pure, beautiful album has emerged.

On the page-long "Golden Pearl," with its hypnotic, almost meditative mood, Tapscott repeatedly takes a step back and lets the horns shine in the foreground, while on side B he proves what an

inventive modernist he is in a superb recording of the Clifford Jordan piece "Spellbound."

Recorded at Paramount Studios in Hollywood on October 17, 1983.
