In his first year on the Impulse! label, he released 'Ballads', which finds the saxophonist exploring a soft and warm style of playing in a quartet. The track list of his first ballad album is based on musical excerpts
and well-known pieces by Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald and includes intense interpretations of standards such as "All or Nothing at All", "What's New", "It's Easy to Remember" and "Nancy (With the Laughing Face)".
The double 45rpm LP is presented in a high-quality jewel case and includes a 12-page booklet with liner notes by Ashley Kahn and photos of the recording session by Jim Marshall. The recordings were made at the Rudy Van Gelder
Studios in 1961 and 62. The limited edition of 5,000 copies in UHQR format is pressed on clear Clarity Vinyl®.
