Julie London was a pin-up girl, a lascivious movie star and a successful singer whose alto voice enchanted an entire generation. The actress had enormous success with "Cry Me A River," a single from 1955.
Three years after her debut album, London tried to repeat her initial success with the same formula. One can literally see the cigar-smoking decision-makers at the Liberty Records label rubbing their hands in
anticipation of ringing cash registers. On the other hand, if uptown singers like Johnny Mathis, Chet Baker and Sarah Vaughan made it big with London's accompanying duo of jazz guitar and bass, why shouldn't
the inventor of this style produce a second album in just that style?Kevin Gray remastered the recording for Analogue Productions. London's delicate, tasteful standards, sung in a smoky, intimate voice are heard
with new freshness on this hybrid stereo SACD. At the same time, the singer sounds more confident, has more swing - even in the ballads. She also benefits from better recording quality compared to the debut album,
resulting in a fuller sound image. And before we forget: of course Julie London made it into the Top 10 again with "Julie Is Her Name - Volume Two".
