Round About Midnight' marks the beginning of more than thirty years of collaboration between Miles Davis and the Columbia record label. It also marked the beginning of his long collaboration with
the then unknown saxophonist John Coltrane. Together with Philly Joe Jones, Paul Chambers and pianist Red Garland, Davis, who had made a name for himself with bebop and cool jazz, recorded
a set in 1957 that set new standards. During this period, he became one of the coolest stars on the jazz scene, confident and utterly hip.
Musically unusual and timeless, ''Round About Midnight'' is almost physically tangible on the MFSL reissue. Mastered by Krieg Wunderlich and Shawn R. Britton, the SuperVinyl version traces the individual
paths of each of the musicians involved and unites them in a new sonic delight. Recorded in three sessions, the music has never sounded so immediate.
