"Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet" is the first in a series of four albums, all recorded during the fabled extended studio session with Rudy Van Gelder on October 26, 1956.
The concept of this session was not to record new tracks, but to document the extensive live catalog in studio quality, creating the atmosphere of a performance.
What can be heard is the fantastic interplay of one of the best jazz quintets ever.
Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones seem to exchange ideas telepathically; the combo forms a magical unit in which each member
benefits from playing together. "Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet" features the first recording of the classic "My Funny Valentine." Uptempo fans will be thrilled with "Tune Up."
