In 1989, Billy Sheehan, one of hard rock's best bassists, and Paul Gilbert, guitarist with Racer X, joined forces to form a new band in Los Angeles: Mr. Big! Through his work with Steve Vai and David Lee Roth (Van Halen),
Sheehan knew the direction he wanted to take musically with his new project. However, he still lacked the right band members, who he finally found in singer Eric Martin and Pat Torpey (drums). The rest is history: the four
of them signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and went straight into the studio. In the same year, the debut album “Mr. Big” was released, which immediately reached number 46 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the
Billboard charts for 18 weeks. In the UK, the group's debut album even reached number 60 on the album charts.
When listing bands that stand for the powerful, melodic rock of the early nineties, Mr. Big is always at the top of the list. Today, ballads like "Wild World" and "To Be With You" are considered absolute classics of the genre.
The self-titled album also proves that they can take a harder line and play their instruments with real virtuosity: the opener "Addicted To That Rush" comes along with full force and technical versatility! When it comes to melodic
rock, there's no getting around Mr. Big!
The LP version of "Mr. Big" is now also available as a high-quality One Step pressing – on heavy-weight black vinyl (180 grams) and cut at 33 RPM.
