“Super Bass” by Capri Records is an album dedicated to the great guitarist Freddie Green. The project was initiated by the two super bassists Ray Brown and John Clayton, together with Jeff Hamilton (drums) and Jeff Clayton,
as well as Freddie Green himself. As the title suggests, the ensemble's recordings from September 1988 contain some of the best bass-driven jazz pieces ever captured on record.
Ray Brown says of the album: “Super Bass has been my dream for ages. I recorded ‘One Bass Hit’ in 1945 and ‘Two Bass Hit’ in 1946. All that time, I had the idea of doing the triple and the home run. Well, I think Super Bass is
the fulfillment of those two dreams. First of all, I had this young student who came back from studying at Indiana University as an absolute 'wizard' on the bass. He also studied conducting and arranging and is going to be one of
the best arrangers in the music business. His name is John Clayton, and he's an important part of this album”.
Acoustic Sounds is now honoring this legendary album with a limited edition, sonically outstanding 180-gram vinyl release – remastered by Doug Sax (The Mastering Lab) and manufactured by Quality Record Pressings.
