Spirits Trio - Jazz / 2LP Venus Records

The Spirits Trio is one of Japan's best-known and strongest piano trios. Hideo Ichikawa (piano), Ikuo Sakurai (bass) and Masahiko Togashi (drums) have made a name for themselves far beyond Japan's borders

with their masterful virtuosity and delicate playing. These outstanding instrumentalists use their collective skills here to perform pop and jazz standards from the 1940s as well as some of their own compositions.

The result is “Jazz,” a balladic masterpiece on which the trio uses beautiful melodies to give these almost forgotten compositions a new shine! “Jazz” was recorded on July 8, 1994, at the Music Inn in Tokyo, Japan,

and produced by legendary sound engineer Tetsuo Hara, mixed by Hiroshi Sato, Shuji Kitamura and Tetsuo Hara, and mastered by Shuji Kitamura and Tetsuo Hara.

Venus Records was founded in Japan in 1992 by Tetsuo Hara, who previously worked as a producer for RCA Victor. The prestigious label uses a special mastering process called “Hyper Magnum Sound” for the strictly

limited double LP of “Jazz”. The records are cut at 33 RPM and pressed on 180-gram vinyl, which produces a powerful, present sound and is highly appreciated by audiophiles worldwide. A quick note: Venus LP reissues

are only pressed once! Once the edition is sold out, the title is removed from the catalog and will not be reissued. Collectors should therefore not wait too long to place their orders: all releases of the “Venus Masterpiece Collection” are extremely popular!
