Unlike many musicians who became stars in the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Clark Terry gained an even more significant position in the jazz world after almost a decade with Duke. His memories of Ellington were realized by a breathtaking quintet consisting
of Jack Wilson (piano), Joe Pass (guitar), Ray Brown (bass) and Frank Severino (drums). Originally released in 1980 on the Pablo Today label, Memories Of Duke includes many unusual tracks as well as familiar evergreens, featuring Jos Pass's eloquent guitar
in place of a second horn. Highlights of the album include “Echoes Of Harlem,” “Sophisticated Lady,” which receives an unusual Latin hustle setting and “Everything But You,” in which Terry switches between trumpet and flugelhorn and engages in a musically
extraordinary dialogue with himself. Scott Yanow of AllMusic noted: “Terry knows these songs inside and out, but he fills each of his interpretations with enthusiasm and melodic creativity.” The Penguin Guide to Jazz selected the album as part of its recommended
Core Collection. As part of the “Pablo Reissue Series,” Analogue Productions now honors this jazz gem with a sonically outstanding reissue, lovingly mastered by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. The LP, pressed on 180-gram vinyl by industry leader Quality
Record Pressings (QRP) and cut at 33 RPM, comes in an tip-on pocket jacket by Stoughton Printing.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
