On November 15, 1957, a quintet that otherwise rarely played together gathered in the studio under the direction of pianist Red Garland to record material for two LPs to be released.
The first side of the production belongs to the good 20 minutes long title track "All Mornin' Long" and with the loose numbers "They Can't Take that Away from Me" and "Our Delight".
The lineup was definitely top-notch. Red Garland and saxophonist John Coltrane knew each other from the Miles Davis Quintet. Drummer Arthur Taylor had been a member of the Red
Garland Trio and trumpeter Donald Byrd had played with all of them. So there is only bassist George Joyner left to make the quintet complete.
The analog mono recordings were put on tape by Rudy van Gelder, who became legendary only in later years.
