The classical music world is full of excellent recordings of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor. However, many experts and music lovers consider the interpretation by Russian violinist Viktoria Mullova, one of the most important violinists of our time,
to be unsurpassed – not least thanks to the excellent accompaniment of conductor Sir Neville Marriner and his Academy of St. Martin. Finally, the audiophile LP edition from the Korean label Analogphonic, based on the popular Philips recording from 1990 in
London, is finally available again!Gramophone writes: “The performance is full of warmth and freshness. The moment on which so much depends, the preparation for the arrival of the second theme of the first movement, does not disappoint. In fact, the lovely
melody sounds with the utmost naturalness at the beginning of the falling solo arpeggio. Mullova's momentary tenuto is gorgeous. She also phrases the slow movement beautifully, and Marriner ensures that it does not indulge, but moves convincingly into the
middle section. The finale dances and bubbles merrily. The recording is one of Philips' best, which means that the balance is natural; the timbre of the solo gives no hint that the microphone is too close, and yet it is full and beautiful throughout, with no lack of
presence in any way. The orchestra has both bloom and power, and the necessary brilliance.”The new edition of Analogphonic, pressed on high-quality 180-gram vinyl (33 RPM) and by the Pallas Group GmbH in Germany, was elaborately mastered by Rainer
Maillard at the Emil Berliner Studios from the original Universal Music tapes and is currently setting the absolute sound standard for the Mendelssohn violin concertos in E minor and D minor.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
