Product Description

The JBL SUB80P Subwoofer is a top-of-the-line unit with a 200-watt amplifier and a wireless connection. The driver is a down-firing fibre composite 8” unit.

You can place the subwoofer anywhere in the room without needing cables. Moreover, the JBL SUB80P Subwoofer is compact, with a stylish and elegant appearance.

Add this unit to your stereo or home cinema system for Earth shaking bass. Lastly, power on can be set to auto and there is a remote trigger input.

Powerful Class D amplifier

A powerful 200-watt Class D amplifier is used by the JBL SUB80P Subwoofer. Class D amplifiers are used where high power is needed in a small enclosed space.

They generate less heat and as a result, do not need large heatsinks or cooling fans. Class D is up to 90% efficient and uses a stream of high-frequency pluses to generate the audio.

This is known as Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). Additionally, the output transistors are usually fast-switching MOSFET types.

Wireless transmitter

The JBL SUB80P Subwoofer comes with a wireless transmitter that sends audio to the subwoofer by radio link. Just connect the RCA inputs to the pre-out connectors on your amplifier or AV receiver.

The transmitter has selectable wireless codes so that more than one subwoofer can be used.

Alongside this, you can connect audio directly to the subwoofer unit via RCA connectors and there is also an LFE input. LFE stands for Low Frequency Effects and an output is provided for this on high-end AV receivers.

Why a subwoofer?

A Subwoofer such as the JBL SUB80P Subwoofer can benefit both music and movie audio playback. If you are using smaller bookshelf speakers a subwoofer will add low-end definition.

On the other hand, movies will gain impact with explosions shaking the room. Moreover, the JBL SUB80P Subwoofer has an LFE input so that the low-frequency effects encoded in some movies can be heard properly.

Connecting a subwoofer

Subwoofers can be connected in several ways depending on the type of amplifier in use. The Wireless transmitter that comes with the JBL SUB80P Subwoofer allows it to be connected to the pre-out connectors of most amplifiers.

However, AV receivers will have one or more dedicated subwoofer outputs.

They may also have an LFE output and the JBL SUB80P Subwoofer can be switched between LFE and the normal input. There is also a bass boost and phase control. The phase control is set so that the subwoofer matches the phase of your main speakers.
