The German guitarist, composer and publisher Siegfried Behrend (November 19, 1933 – September 20, 1990) contributed significantly through his commitment to ensuring that music for guitar and other plucked instruments gained

a firm place in the public musical life of the Federal Republic of Germany. Over 120 recordings, more than 250 compositions of his own, countless radio and television productions, and world premieres of important compositions describe

the career of this artist, who was also committed to continuous development. At the age of 20, Behrend was asked to give the German premiere of the famous “Concierto De Aranjuez,” and he helped the then little-known work achieve a

triumphant triumph through the concert halls of the world, culminating in the present recording in the Jesus Christ Church in Berlin – together with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Reinhard Peters.In 1963, Behrend presented the

television program “Die Geschichte der Gitarre” (The History of the Guitar), and in 1971, a thirteen-part television series on the guitar and its use in chamber music entitled “Instrumente - Klänge – Strukturen” (Instruments - Sounds - Structures)

on Hessischer Rundfunk. From 1960 to 1973, he directed the Saarländisches Zupforchester (SZO) and from 1968 to 1990 the Deutsches Zupforchester (DZO). In the 1970s, he organized the “International Master Classes for Artistic Guitar Playing”

in Riedenburg, Bavaria, and in the following years, as a teacher and mentor, he promoted numerous young guitarists, including Michael Tröster, Matthias Henke, and Martin Maria Krüger, with whom he later performed internationally as the German Guitar Duo.
