Monk recorded 'Misterioso' live at the Five Spot Café on the Bowery in Manhattan on 7 August 1958, during the same sessions that produced 'Thelonious in Action'.
The Five Spot, one of New York's most famous jazz venues, was the place where Monk first stepped into the limelight. He was accompanied by tenor saxophonist
Johnny Griffin, drummer Roy Haynes and bassist Ahmed Abdul-Malik. They recorded two memorable albums of classic Monk repertoire (this is the second).
From the hypnotic groove of the title track 'Misterioso' to Monk's passion for distorted melodic lines on 'Let's Cool One', every composition on this album is a testament to
Monk's unrivalled musical vision. Monk takes the listener on a journey through a sonic landscape that is at once unpredictable and deeply compelling. With daring improvisations,
unexpected twists and infectious energy, Misterioso captures the essence of Monk's creative spirit and serves as a shining example of his enduring influence on the world of jazz.
