Chuck Mangione, son of an Italian-American greengrocer, initially played hard bop in a group with his brother, a pianist, before launching a solo career in the mid-1960s. In 1978, he joined a small group of successful elite jazz
instrumentalists when his song “Feels So Good” reached number one on the US Adult Contemporary charts. Mangione, who is considered the founder of smooth jazz, started his own record label in the late 1980s. Then things
went quiet for the Grammy winner and honorary doctorate recipient from the University of Rochester, New York. But like the proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes, Mangione made a comeback in 1999 to record “The Feeling's Back”
for Chesky Records – the first of two albums for the audiophile label. And once again, Mangione manages the difficult balancing act between jazz, folk and concert performance with his usual ease. On “The Feeling's Back,” the trumpete
r and flugelhorn player interprets his own compositions and songs popular in Brazil, such as “Manha De Carneval,” with his idiosyncratic melancholic touch. He also seamlessly ties in with his great successes “Feels So Good,”
“Tarantella” and “Children Of Sanchez,” which were heard from many high-end speakers in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Hilarie Grey (JazzTimes) wrote: “Don't be fooled by the title – on the appealing new album ”The Feeling's Back,“ Chuck Mangione, pop music's first flugelhornist, not only builds on his 1978 hit “Feels So Good.” While the romantic, supple
lines and pretty melodic hooks that serve as a template for so many other pop instrumentalists are still present, there are also rich world-beat elements and reverent classical jazz layers that the occasional Mangione fan might not expect.”
We are pleased to present the reissue of this smooth jazz gem: as a 180-gram LP (33 RPM), pressed for the first time using the superior One-Step process!
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
