"Europe, here we come!" This rousing concert by the Dave Brubeck Quartet in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw on February 26, 1958 is considered the starting shot of a great career in Europe. Since its founding in 1951, the quartet around

pianist Dave Brubeck and saxophonist Paul Desmond had already earned a stunning reputation overseas; Brubeck even graced the cover of Time magazine in 1954. Legend has it that Duke Ellington congratulated him on this and Brubeck replied,

"It should have been you."One of the most famous pieces on this album is a dedication to Ellington, entitled "The Duke." An interpretation of the standard "These Foolish Things," which had made Ella Fitzgerald famous, is heard, as is the Disney classic

"Somdeday, My Prince Will Come," which served as the title track for Miles Davis' album released three years later. Together with Eugene Wright on bass and Joe Morello on drums, an exciting, flowing session was created, which can now be enjoyed in the

best mono sound quality.Even though the recording tape came to a halt before the end of the last track "Take the "A" Train", the makers of "The Lost Recordings" decided to release the concert in order to preserve this great piece of art for posterity.

Dave Brubeck (p), Paul Desmond (sax), Eugene Wright (b), Joe Morello (dr)

We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
