At the time of this recording, Benny Golson was a member of Jazztet, a group he had formed with Art Farmer. Golson had already made his mark on the jazz scene as

part of Tadd Dameron's band and Dizzy Gillespie's orchestra. "Groovin' with Golson" is a successful blend of improvisation and Golson's compositions. Playing with him
