It took Columbia Records' lawyers seven months to get Janis Joplin and her band out of an unhappy contractual relationship with Mainstream Records. Only then, in August 1968, could "Cheap Thrills" be released.

A celebrated performance at the Monterey Pop Festival the year before had created a furor and brought Joplin to the public's attention, but other than a poorly produced LP, no record of hers had been released until then.

Expectations were high - and "Cheap Thrills" lived up to them. The number one album sold over a million copies and cemented Joplin's reputation as the first true female rock superstar.

Her extraordinary vocal talent, her unmistakable blues voice takes you right back to 1968. One thing is certain: you can't imitate singer Janis Joplin or match her class. "Cheap Thrills" is released as a double 180 gram vinyl LP

with 45 rpm with consecutive serial number in limited edition. Krieg Wunderlich cut in Sebastopol on the GAIN-2 system and the sonic result is groovy, energetic and full of the spirit of the 70s.
