Analogue Productions is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the legendary Atlantic Records label with the new 'Atlantic 75' series and has some delicacies in store - such as Charles Mingus' 'Blues & Roots'.
Recorded in 1959, the album is considered Mingus's happiest work, for which he drew inspiration from the gospel, blues and old-time jazz of New Orleans. The result was a swinging, soulful work that showed a
hitherto unknown side of Mingus's oeuvre and immediately convinced critics who had accused him of not having enough "swing". Together with a nine-piece ensemble, they have succeeded in recording very complex
arrangements with a historical basis and yet a modern touch. This note is enhanced by Analogue Productions' sumptuous reissue as a 45 RPM double LP, which gives this new version more depth, richness of sound
and clarity, especially in the higher frequencies. Mastered by Kevin Gray of Cohearent Audio.
