The winner of the 2023 German Jazz Award, Volker Holly Schlott, has long been an institution in the German music scene. One of the best-known projects of the prolific multi-instrumentalist, composer,
arranger and producer, who has worked with Chaka Khan, Udo Lindenberg and Jocelyn B. Smith, among others, is called “Favo” – a collaboration with renowned bass clarinetist Falko Breitkreuz. When
Belgian singer Sander De Winne joins them, they perform under the name “Favo 3.” On February 12, 2025, the trio gathered at Emil Berliner Studios in Studio 1 to record Favo 3's fourth album. The result is
an incredibly exciting program that captures the essence of Latin American music like no other, blurring the boundaries between popular and serious music in a highly virtuosic and playful way: “Todo Cambia!”
– an album inspired by Antônio Carlos Jobim, Silvio Rodriguez, the Buena Vista Social Club and many other artists.
For “Todo Cambia,” the BMS team led by managing directors, producers and sound engineers Rainer Maillard and Stephan Flock relied on the most consistent of all recording methods: the direct-to-disc mastering.
Vocals, percussion, saxophones, clarinets, the flute...all of this was recorded directly onto vinyl – without digital smoothing, safety nets, or double bottoms. This is the only way to capture the pure energy and liveliness
of the music as it is created in the moment.
“Todo Cambia,” the new sonic highlight from Berliner Meister Schallplatten, was cut onto lacquer foil under the supervision of Sidney Claire Meyer and pressed onto extremely high-quality 180-gram vinyl (33 RPM) at Optimal Media.
