Foghat - Fool for the City / Mobile Fidelity

Some songs are so deeply ingrained in our consciousness that we recognize them immediately after just one or two notes. With one of the most memorable riffs of all time, Foghat's air guitar anthem “Slow Ride” is one such song.

The hit single made the British rock band stars and catapulted their fifth album, “Fool For The City”, released on September 15, 1975, straight to the top of the charts. Recorded at Suntreader Studios in Sharon, USA, the album

was also their first platinum seller – despite the fact that bassist Tony Stevens had left the band shortly before the recording sessions. He was replaced by producer Nick Jameson, who played the bass and keyboard parts and

recorded the track “Take It Or Leave It” together with Dave Peverett (vocals, guitar).

“Fool For The City” stands for good old rock ‘n’ roll: simple songs with a good beat and fat grooves that are just fun – music without frills that invites you to sit back, let go and enjoy. Music that didn't need image cultivation or special

looks to convince. Fans of classic 70s rock with killer slide guitar solos, crisp leads, driving rhythms and soaring vocals will get their money's worth here. Incidentally, the iconic album cover shows drummer Roger Earl sitting alone on

a soapbox fishing in a gutter near 229 East 11th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenue) in Manhattan's East Village, New York City.

solidity and bluesy structures shine through like never before on this strictly numbered MoFi reissue. The bass lines are denser and richer, the two guitars bite and pop, and “Lonesome” Dave Peverett's vocals come across with realistic

roughness. “Fool For The City” invites you to hear and feel the energy that Foghat put into the boogie-heavy title track, the great cover version of “My Babe” by the Righteous Brothers and of course the unforgettable “Slow Ride.” An absolute rock gem!
