This deluxe LP box set of 5 vinyl discs is really something special. Like the double hybrid SACD from Analogue Productions, it contains Harry Belafonte's concert recording from Carnegie Hall in April 1959
including some songs that were missing from earlier editions due to space limitations. This includes Belafonte's spoken introduction before he begins with the tender "Scarlet Ribbons" followed by the orchestral overture.
This "granddaddy of all live albums" (allmusic.com) was an anomaly at the time of its release. Only comedians recorded their albums outside the studio. The huge commercial and artistic success of "Belafonte At Carnegie Hall"
was unexpected but powerful: the recording of the concert stayed on the charts for over three years and remained a bestseller in RCA's catalog until they stopped pressing LPs.
Remastering for the 5-LP 45 rpm box set was handled by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound's studios.
