A tribute to Pink Floyd's “Dark Side Of The Moon”, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023, “Jazz Side Of The Moon” is one of the most sparkling jewels in the catalog of renowned audiophile label Chesky Records.
It was recorded in 2007 at St. Peter's Church in New York by an absolute jazz supergroup consisting of organist Sam Yahel, drummer Ari Hoenig, guitarist Mike Moreno, and tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake. Produced by
David Chesky and Sam Yahel, the quartet gave this great classic of music history a fresh coat of paint that honors the spirit of the original 1973 LP while adding a new musical dimension. When you listen to the original album,
it's fascinating to discover how innovative Pink Floyd's classic still is. Accordingly, it was a challenge for the quartet to do the music more than justice.
The interplay between the four protagonists is nothing short of supernatural: Yahel's organ, though not the dominant voice, has an outstanding presence that sets the aesthetic tone for this work: nothing rushed, nothing forced,
nothing extravagant, but always elegant, swinging, experimental, and with a lot of rhythmic vitality—a sensibility he shares with his fellow musicians Mike Moreno, Ari Hoenig, and Seamus Blake, which contributes greatly to making
their interpretation of Pink Floyd's music so captivating and ensuring that it loses none of its quality even after repeated listening. Highlights of the recording include sensational interpretations of fan favorites “Time,” “Money,” and “The Great Gig In The Sky.”
Chesky Records now presents “Jazz Side Of The Moon” as a limited, high-quality one-step pressing, cut at 33 RPM and pressed on 180-gram vinyl – a must-have, not only for Pink Floyd fans!
