One does not want to risk boring the reader with opinions, insights, figures, data and facts about Vivaldi's "Four Seasons". Everything there is to say about this work has already been said. And yet, three centuries after the Venetian violinist and Roman
Catholic priest composed his most famous work, there are no signs of fatigue – neither among musicians nor among experts and consumers. The famous Italian ensemble I Musici, which has recorded over 130 albums for Philips and DECCA since its
inception, has also devoted itself to the works of the Italian composer on several occasions – with impressive results: to date, their recordings of Antonio Vivaldi's works have sold over 10 million (!) records.
The recording for DECCA/Philips, which the chamber orchestra made under the direction of the Italian conductor, record producer and musicologist Vittorio Negri, and which originally took place between April 29 and May 6, 1959 in Vienna, enjoys a specia
l status, especially among connoisseurs of the material. On the one hand, this is due to Negri, who also worked with the Berlin Chamber Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Dresden and who, in the course of his career, primarily focused on the works of Vivaldi.
On the other hand, this is due to Félix Ayo, one of the founders, the first violinist and then concert director of I Musici. This artistic constellation and the dedication behind it ensure that this special recording stands out from the mass of “Four Seasons” releases.
No wonder that the Esoteric Mastering Center was keen to take on this gem. The new edition, pressed on high-quality 180-gram vinyl, shines in fresh audiophile splendor thanks to the loving processing – a must for fans of "Four Seasons"!
