Since its release in 1956, this recording of Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra has been regarded as the standard against which all other recordings must be measured.
Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra give an intense and precise performance that remains unsurpassed to this day. Part of Reiner's devotion to Bartók's
work is certainly due to his friendship with the Hungarian composer. But it also demonstrates Reiner's ability to work with the orchestra and lead it to great heights.
Analogue Productions hired Ryan Smith of Sterling Sound to remaster the original 3-track analogue tapes. The RCA Victor 'Living Stereo' series of recordings are already
considered the 'gold standard' in terms of quality and sound. Smith's remastering presents Reiner's recording as a pure audiophile pleasure and shows what a great ensemble
the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was under his direction.
