Ida Haendel (1928-2020) is considered one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. At the age of six, Haendel became the youngest participant to reach the final of the Wieniawski Competition in 1935, finishing in seventh

place – Ginette Neveu, then 16, and David Oistrach, then 27, took the top two places. In 1935, the family moved to London, where she studied with Carl Flesch. He was so impressed by her talent that he offered her free lessons.

Ida Haendel also took lessons from the violinist, pianist and composer George Enescu in Paris. Her international career began after 1945: she enjoyed a long friendship and artistic collaboration with the Romanian conductor Sergiu

Celibidache. David Garrett was one of her students. This recording from the SWR archives – “Tchaikovsky – Violin Concerto,” with conductor Hans Müller-Kray and the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart – was previously only

available on CD. The renowned South Korean label Analogphonic is now making this wonderful recording available on LP for the first time. Haendel's concert career, which spanned almost seven decades, is one of the longest in music

history. Since her debut in 1937, she has thrilled audiences around the world with her lively and inspired playing and was particularly popular with British audiences. As she was always very self-critical, she made relatively few commercial

recordings during her heyday, but these are of the highest quality and flawless in both interpretation and technique. Among her concert recordings, those of Beethoven, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky were particularly highly praised and can still

compete with the best versions today. Although Ida Haendel accepted the invitation to perform in Germany only after much hesitation, she worked long and successfully with the SWR from 1952 to 1967. Her radio recordings with the then chief

conductor Hans Müller-Kray are among the most valuable treasures in today's SWR archive. The Tchaikovsky concerto was always one of her “pièces de résistance,” and this radio recording from 1960 is a magnificent document. Analogphonic

commissioned Rainer Maillard and Emil Berliner Studios to handle the analog processing of the master tapes. The audiophile remastering does justice to the outstanding musical quality of the recording in every respect and sets new standards in

sound quality! The vinyl release of “Ida Haendel: Tchaikovsky – Violin Concerto” was pressed by Pallas Group GmbH in Germany on high-quality 180-gram vinyl (33 RPM). We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl.

Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
