Beautifully recorded at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in New York, “Three Guitars” is an indispensable summit meeting of three extraordinary masters of their craft: Larry Coryell,
Badi Assad – a rising star on the Brazilian music scene at the time of recording in 2002 – and John Abercrombie. Despite their differences in age, nationality, genre, gender and
musical background, the three musicians immediately hit it off. Coryell described their meeting as “a unique intersection of creativity”. Coryell and Abercrombie, both pioneers of
electric jazz fusion in the 1970s, play steel-string acoustic guitars, which contrast with Assad's classical guitar with nylon strings. The versatile Brazilian also contributed vocals
and percussion sounds, which she creates with her mouth and body.
“Three Guitars” is a harmonious journey that celebrates the versatility of the guitar and serves as a creative platform for a complex exchange between three exceptional virtuoso
musicians. Highlights of the album include Coryell's “No Flight Tonite,” Abercrombie's “Timeless” and Assad's “After The Rain”. Eagerly awaited by fans since 2005, Chesky Records
is now presenting this immaculately produced album for the first time on LP – pressed in the sonically superior One-Step process, on 180-gram vinyl (33 RPM). A must-have for fans
of true guitar artistry!
