In 1957 Miles Davis plays at the Club Saint-Germain and gives a wonderful concert at the Olympia Theater in Paris. He meets many representatives of existentialism in the Saint-Germain-des-Près neighborhood during this time,

including the director Louis Malle, who had just finished his first film: "Ascenseur Pour L'échafaud". Jean-Paul Rappeneau, jazz fan and Louis Malle's assistant at the time, suggested asking Miles Davis to write the soundtrack for the film.

A private screening was organized. On December 4, 1957, Miles Davis brought three French jazz musicians - Barney Wilen on tenor saxophone, René Urtreger on piano, Pierre Michelot on bass - and his American compatriot Kenny Clarke

on drums to the recording studio "Le Poste Parisien" without letting them prepare anything. He merely gave the musicians a few rudimentary harmonic sequences that he had put together in his hotel room. The recordings were made at night

in a very informal atmosphere. The soundtrack was not released separately in the U.S., but ten songs from it appeared as one side of the album "Jazz Track," which received a Grammy nomination in 1960 in the category "Best Jazz Performance,

Solo or Small Group." This pressing was done by Optimal, the editing by Ray Staff at Air Mastering Studio, London. The 10'' LP comes in a facsimile of the original cover with Obi.

We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
