The Cars - Shake it up / Mobile Fidelity

The Cars' fourth album followed a weak 1981 predecessor. To avoid comparisons, the band chose to focus almost exclusively on songs by leader Ric Ocasek, with his flair for fast rhythms and ironic lyrics.

The sound was very much in tune with the electro-pop zeitgeist of the early 80s and was underpinned by powerful rock riffs.The MFSL reissue comes with a complete lyric book and Rob LoVerde's re-mastering

has brought a decidedly more upbeat sound to the vinyl disc, perfectly matching the intention of the title track 'Shake it up'. The MFSL LP version comes in a sequentially numbered gatefold sleeve and sounds

perhaps even more authentic on vinyl than on the gold CD version.
