Bill Evans Trio - Explorations / 45RPM 2LP Analogue Productions

The second album by Bill Evans’ original trio was recorded after the legendary pianist, bassist Scott LaFaro, and drummer Paul Motian had spent a year working together and developed an almost telepathic connection that set a new standard for ensemble playing in trio formations.

Featuring intimate interpretations of several standards as well as three original compositions that became synonymous with the trio’s sound, the album – recorded on February 2, 1961, at Bell Sound in New York City – became an absolute classic of the Riverside catalog. The recording

sessions provided ample space for LaFaro’s virtuosity to shine. Years later, Evans described the album as one of his own favorite recordings.
