Recorded in 1960 for Bluesville, a subsidiary of the Prestige label, "Lightnin'" is one of the more rewarding recordings by American singer-guitarist Lightnin' Hopkins.
The session has an informal, relaxed feel, which suits tracks like "Thinkin' 'Bout an Old Friend," "Katie Mae," "Back to New Orleans" and "Mean Old Frisco" well. Playing
alongside Hopkins are only bassist Leonard Gaskin and drummer Belton Evans, who unobtrusively accompany him.The recording was done by Rudy van Gelder, remastering
for Analogue Productions was done by Kevin Gray. Liner notes by Joe Goldberg.
