Intervention Records continues its “Sun Records Hi-Fi Series” with essential titles from the famous Memphis label – this time with a brilliant reissue of “Johnny Cash With His Hot and Blue Guitar!”, the first LP by one of country music's most enduring icons!
Originally released on October 11, 1957, the album features classics such as “I Walk The Line,” which was a number one country hit for six non-consecutive weeks before entering the top 20 of the Billboard pop charts, “Cry, Cry, Cry” (number 14 on the country charts),
“So Doggone Lonesome” (No. 4 on the country charts), and “Folsom Prison Blues,” which would top the country charts more than a decade later when Cash performed the song as part of his groundbreaking 1968 live album At Folsom Prison. The album was recorded
between September 1954 and August 1957 under the aegis of star producer Sam Phillips.
“I never thought I'd hear the iconic voice of Johnny Cash on Intervention Records!” said Shane Buettner, founder of the label. “And I don't think music fans around the world have ever heard Johnny's voice or the famous Sun Studio sound as clearly and distinctly as they
do on this new 45 RPM mono recording. It's pretty close to a time machine back to 1950s Memphis!” Accompanied only by his “Tennessee Two” (Luther Perkins on lead guitar and Marshall Grant on double bass) and complemented by Phillips' characteristic studio slapback,
which gave Cash's “boom-chicka-boom” sound its kick, “Johnny Cash With His Hot and Blue Guitar!” is the album that introduced many to Cash's sonorous baritone.
As part of the “Sun Records Hi-Fi Series,” “With His Hot And Blue Guitar” was remastered 100 percent analog by the legendary Kevin Gray at CoHEARent Audio. He had access to the original analog tape sources from the label's archive. The result is impressive and proves
how fantastic mono recordings can sound when remastered specifically for playing with modern stereo cartridges. The LP reissue from Intervention Records was pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Gotta Groove Records and cut at 45 RPM. In keeping with its status, “Johnny Cash
With His Hot And Blue Guitar!” comes in an “old-style” sleeve from Stoughton Printing – including the iconic album cover.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
This new edition proves just how fantastic mono recordings can sound when they have been remastered specifically for playback with modern stereo cartridges.
