With 'Winds Of War And Peace', conductor Lowell Graham leads the National Symphonic Wind Ensemble in a programme of moving orchestrations and marches. 'Liberty Fanfare' was composed
for the centenary of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. This fanfare was the prelude to one of the most spectacular celebrations in American history. Samuel Barber's Commando March, composed in 1943,
is Barber's first work for band. Written in four-four time, it uses the constant contrast of dotted rhythms and triplets. Roger Nixon's "Festival Fanfare March"
was recognised as an outstanding composition by the American Bandmasters Association in 1973. The work is formal, colourful and exuberant. The album also includes "Victory At Sea", "El Camino
Real", "A Santa Cecilla" and "Symphonic Dance No. 3".
Although the 33 1/3rpm reissue of this Analogue Productions recording was excellent, our 45rpm version raises the bar even higher. With the wider groove spacing, you'll hear a sound that gives more
depth and space to both the orchestra as a whole and the individual instruments. These LPs offer more detail, more human presence, more of what we audiophiles hear.
Graham, a native of Greeley, Colorado, is recognised as one of the most talented young conductors in the USA. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with Bachelor of Arts and Master of
Arts degrees. He was also the first to receive a Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting from the Catholic University of America.
Graham has conducted both orchestras and bands for recordings as well as performances worldwide. He is the current conductor and commander of the United States Air Force Tactical Air Command Band.
