You've definitely never heard Gabriel Fauré's “Après Un Rêve” and the other compositions from the album of the same name like this before: Sir Roland Hanna brings this classic back to life together with Ron Carter (bass)

and Grady Tate (drums), creating his legacy in the process: “Après Un Rêve” is the last recording by the late pianist, whose piano playing – from Schubert's Serenade to Mahler's Adagietto – is unsurpassed in its beauty.

Roland Hanna began learning classical piano at the age of 11, but it was his friend, pianist Tommy Flanagan, who introduced him to jazz. After a brief stint in the military, he attended music school and then began his career,

working with several big names such as Benny Goodman and Charles Mingus in the 1950s. In 1972, he toured the Soviet Union with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. “Après Un Rêve” was recorded on September 22, 2002,

at Avatar Studio in New York and produced by Todd Barkan and legendary sound engineer Tetsuo Hara. The latter was also responsible for mixing and mastering the album.

Venus Records was founded in Japan in 1992 by Tetsuo Hara, who previously worked as a producer for RCA Victor. The prestigious label uses a special mastering process called “Hyper Magnum Sound” for the strictly limited double

LP of “Après Un Rêve”. The records are cut at 33 RPM and pressed on 180-gram vinyl, which produces a powerful, present sound and is highly appreciated by audiophiles worldwide. A quick note: Venus LP reissues are only pressed once!
