Frédéric D’Oria-Nicolas, the musical treasure hunter at The Lost Recordings, describes the rediscovery of Emil Gilels’ “Live At The Concertgebouw 1980” as follows: “Some discoveries are musical miracles.

These recordings are undoubtedly among them. Everything achieves perfection: the intelligence of the programs, their diversity, the technical mastery, and the way Gilels embodies every intonation, every intention,

every articulation, the beauty of his touch. The power and softness of his sound really give us the impression that we are listening to the composer himself at the piano. How can we explain that these treasures sat

on the shelves for decades without anyone paying attention to them before us? The public and the international press were not mistaken: these recordings topped the classical music sales charts in Europe for more

than two months and were awarded the Edison Award, the CHOC Classica, the Diapason d'Or ..."

In the Dutch radio archives, TLR managed to find five recordings of concerts that Gilels had given at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam between 1975 and 1980 – recordings that had been forgotten. They were assigned

a studio where they listened to the tapes one after the other. Speechless and overwhelmed by the beauty of what they heard, the label was immediately impressed by the dynamic sound palette and purity of Gilels' tone,

both of which serve an ideal and clear musicality. Gilels never resorted to showmanship: with him, everything is simple, profoundly crafted and extremely elegant. On April 15, 1980, he gave a recital dedicated entirely to

Beethoven, alone on stage. This is one of those rare musical performances that are so profound and sincere that they leave an indelible impression on their listeners. There is no doubt that what Gilels offered at the

Concertgebouw is of this caliber! TLR is proud to present the lavishly restored recording of “Live At The Concertgebouw 1980” – as a strictly limited edition of 3,000 180-gram LPs (33 RPM). Sound wizard Kevin Gray himself

is responsible for the lacquer cuts.  “The Lost Recordings” is celebrated worldwide for preserving priceless musical heritage and for the unsurpassed quality of its Phoenix Mastering™ restorations. “Live At The Concertgebouw

1980” definitely is an audiophile revelation with high repertoire value!

We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
