Pieces of music running backwards, so-called palindromes, exist hundreds of times. A long-playing record that plays backwards, however, is rare. In this TACET LP, unlike the usual, the needle is placed at the 'mirror' of the
record and runs outwards. Behind the apparent gag is nothing more than the will to achieve the best possible sound result and the general realization that music often begins quietly and ends loudly. It's just a pity that this
phenomenon is not taken into account in the usual cutting technique, because the further the tone arm moves inward, the more information has to be accommodated per groove centimeter at constant turntable speed.
The result: at high volume, the highs suffer and distortion occurs. To make it audible that this undesirable effect can be compensated for with the LP in reverse, Tacet boss Andreas Spreer chose Ravel's Boléro, one of the
most violent dynamic stress tests from the repertoire. The result is 16 minutes of excitement and sound culture that builds to a final climax with each new millimeter of sampling."A small feast," was how Mirko Weber concluded
his review of the CD version of this recording in Die Zeit. He was delighted by the way Carlo Rizzi and the Nederlands Philharmonic Orchestra savored all the subtleties with relish. With this LP, the great feast now appears for
vinyl fans. Who does not believe it, can hear it.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
